There is nothing worse than finding yourself engaged in a close conversation with someone who has bad breath. Not only does it make you want to finish the chat quickly, but you also have to make a concerted effort not to show how disgusting you find this by way of your facial expressions.
This is an extremely difficult state of affairs to deal with as the bad smell automatically brings on involuntary reactions forcing you to move away from the putrid odour at the first opportunity. However, the issue of bad breath has to be dealt with so whether you are a close friend, a family member or a colleague it is important that the cause of bad breath is addressed.
Take Personal Responsibility
So, what exactly can be done about getting rid of bad breath? Well, to begin with, each and every one of us has a personal responsibility to look after our teeth and practise a high standard of oral hygiene in order to keep out mouths fresh. This is, after all, a matter of common courtesy to others. Why should people have to suffer someone else’s bad breath just because they are too lazy to do something about it? For those who are aware that they have a problem in this way, they should do everything they can be lessen the condition. Professional help from a doctor or dentist is always available if it is required.
Talk About It
When you have to speak with someone who has bad breath, it really should not go unmentioned. Although it is quite a difficult conversation to initiate, the person may well thank you in the long run, because quite often they are not aware they have a bad breath issue. It could be that they are regular visitor to the dentist, take full and proper care when it comes to cleaning their teeth and keeping their mouth fresh, but there could be an underlying health problem. If such a medical condition is serious, speaking out and telling the person they have offending breath could actually save their life at some point in the future.
You could always offer the person with bad breath a mint or a stick of gum and maybe suggest in the most subtle of ways that they should get their bad breath problem checked out with their doctor. You could even use someone else as an example when relaying a tale about someone with bad breath, and then delicately offer them the gum or a mint. This gentle approach quite often does the trick, but if all else fails, try a direct approach by telling them they have bad breath and suggesting that something is needed to be done to take care of the problem.
